The summer is here and we have longer days and more time for rides : ) We just have to keep a few things in mind to enjoy the warm weather without unexpected and unpleasant surprises.
Most of our devices ( e-boards, e-bikes, e-scooters, phones, laptops, cameras, etc. ) use types of lithium batteries. Heat is one of the biggest enemies of these batteries. It is the number one cause of reducing the batteries life and even permanently damaging them. One of the worst things we can do is leaving our e-board in a car parked under the sun. The temperature inside a vehicle parked under the sun in the summer can go quickly up to 70°C degrees Celsius (160°F Fahrenheit) or even more. We all know this sauna feel when we enter after the beach.
Overheating of the batteries can even cause venting of dangerous gasses or even exploding, which is another thing that should make you very careful and not leaving your e-board at hot places. Keep in mind also that if the battery is hot you should not connect it to the socket for charging, wait until it cools down to room temperature before doing that. So despite the dangers, it is also not good for our pocket and the environment if we are negligent about this. Around one third or even more of the price of our e-boards comes from the battery itself. These batteries are expensive and some of them not so easy to be replaced, so it is really worth it to do our efforts to keep them in good condition by following some basic rules of maintenance.
When we are out with our e-boards, chilling in the park or anywhere, a simple thing we can do is to put them on a shadow, cover them with something or if this is not possible to keep them with the deck facing the sun so it does not heat the battery directly.
